Our Origin Story

Gold Stars

A smiling man in a suit and tie in a professional setting.

I grew up in Beaumont, Texas, where civil trial lawyers were royalty. In my hometown, anybody who was anybody was a trial lawyer. These weren’t just attorneys; they were legends who took on Big Tobacco and won billion-dollar verdicts.

My mother was an Assistant District Attorney. Her case files spread across our kitchen table became my earliest memory of what practicing law looked like. From age six, everyone always said, “You should be a lawyer.” I never wanted to be anything else.

Every choice was calculated to get me here. Mock trial in high school, which earned me a letter jacket with a gavel instead of a football. UT for undergrad to get into UT Law. This wasn’t a career choice—this was destiny.

My first real job after law school is in Laredo, where I’m living in an extended-stay motel while taking depositions in wrongful death cases, grilling industry leaders, being thrown into the deep end and learning how to swim.

I discover something magical: I can find the truth and turn it into money for people who had been wronged.

Dashed arrow line curving downwards, indicating movement or direction.

I’m Robin Hood, taking from billion-dollar insurance companies and giving to people who desperately need help.

A gravel company worker, a husband, a father, is hit and killed by a cement truck while walking across the company yard before the crack of dawn. He wasn’t wearing his high visibility vest, so the company accepts no responsibility. I discover the vests are stored on the other side of the yard from the parking lot. He had no choice but to walk across the yard in the dark. Without my digging, the family gets nothing, the husband dies for nothing.

This is What I Was Born to Do

Three years later, I’m ready to build my own firm. I partner up in San Antonio; we grow from nothing to sixteen employees; we knock down multiple, Top-100, six & seven-figure jury verdicts; other lawyers start referring their toughest and biggest cases to us—the ultimate validation.

But partnerships can fracture. In 2024, after nearly nine years, we part ways.

Today, I lead The Injury Law Guides, where I’ve returned to what drew me to this profession:

Being the guide who leads people through dangerous, unfamiliar territory to get justice and find healing. We specialize in injury cases, and what sets us apart isn’t just our track record—it’s our philosophy.

We’re like a park ranger who can take you to a hidden waterfall instead of you getting lost in the woods; We don’t just file paper work in the courts for you–we navigate the legal system with you, to a place of genuine transformation.

My Wife Figured it Out: I’m a ‘Gold Star’ Guy

My wife figured it out: I’m a ‘gold star’ guy. I crave the respect of my peers and the recognition that comes from doing exceptional work. That’s my fuel—earning the trust of other attorneys who know what it takes to win, earning the gratitude of clients who we win life-changing money for.

Sometimes, late at night when I’m preparing for trial, and my case file is spread out over the kitchen table, I think back to being that six-year-old who wanted nothing more than to do what his heroes did, and realize that I earned that gold star, and continue to earn it, every day, by laying it all on the line for my clients.
